In 2015 the artist's grandson Eric found the painting for sale. He researched, found who he thought was the subject, and was able to contact Nancy (Coward) Urban and her daughter Joan. Nancy had no recollection of the event but did confirm in a diary entry that she had sat for the artist 10/19 and 10/26/1940, when she was just turning 15. The entry stated she had had her portrait painted by "Mr. Weber" and a friend of her mother, Mil Justice, who was living with them at the time. Apparently, they wanted to paint outdoors but it was too cold, so they decided instead to paint the subject (inside) since they liked her red hair. In 2015 Joan acquired the painting. 1940
